Lebone Seema Eyes Bafana Bafana Dream Ahead of World Cup

With the FIFA World Cup just months away, Orlando Pirates defender Lebone Seema has opened up about his ambitions of representing Bafana Bafana. The 22-year-old arrived at Pirates from TS Galaxy at the start of the season as a surprise signing. Many expected him to play a limited role in a defence packed with experience. Players like Thabiso Sesane, Tapelo Xoki, Nkosinathi Sibisi and Mbekezeli Mbokazi were seen as first choices. Seema instead found himself pushed into action earlier than expected. He has responded with maturity and consistency.

Injuries to several senior defenders created an opening and Seema stepped up. The former TS Galaxy man took the opportunity without hesitation. He has made 19 appearances across all competitions this season. He has missed only two league matches since joining the Sea Robbers. His performances have shown calm decision making and positional awareness. The trust from the technical team has grown with each game. His rise has become one of Pirates’ quiet success stories this season.

With nine Pirates players included in the recent Bafana Bafana AFCON squad, Seema knows the national team is within reach. He admitted the World Cup remains a major personal goal. “Yeah, it’s something I’m looking at. I think it’s a dream for every player playing in the PSL to be there,” Seema said. He added that consistent performances are key to earning a call-up. “It’s also something that I am aiming towards. I just have to keep on playing well,” he explained. The motivation is clear and grounded in performance rather than hype.

Competition for places in Bafana Bafana’s defence remains intense. Siyabonga Ngezana and Nkosinathi Sibisi currently occupy the right centre-back role. Grant Kekana, Thabiso Sesane and Given Msimango have also returned to action. All three are considered part of Hugo Broos’ wider 30-man core group. Seema understands the challenge and accepts the standard required. Breaking into the national setup will demand sustained excellence.

For now, Seema’s focus remains firmly on club duties. Orlando Pirates face Magesi FC in the Betway Premiership on Saturday at Orlando Amstel Arena. Another strong performance would further strengthen his case. With confidence growing and minutes piling up, Seema’s World Cup dream feels realistic. His journey shows how preparation meets opportunity at the highest level.
