Leonardo Castro Makes Updates About His Next Move

A ditched Kaizer Chiefs striker Leonardo Castro has confirmed his future as he was released by Amakhosi along with the first list of the players that the club decided against extending their stay.

Castro came to South Africa when he signed for Mamelodi Sundowns in 2015 and had a short and successful stay when all he was doing was to beat the goalkeeper. He was part of the famous trio alongside khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly.

He joined Chiefs in 2018 and this season he played only 13 games across all competitions. And the main cause of his struggles at Naturena was the injuries. He was let go alongside  Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya, Daniel Akpeyi, Daniel Cardoso, Dumisani Zuma, Kearyn Baccus, Lazarous Kambole, Samir Nurkovic, Leonardo Castro, Bernard Parker and Lebogang Manyama while Kenyan midfielder Teddy Akumu was placed on transfer.

“I’m going back home next week. I could have been already home since the beginning of the month but I have been waiting for the kids to close at school first before we leave. I have been very far away from home for a while now,” he told KickOff.com.

“Once I’m back home I will see what happens next but the beauty about all of this is that I will be with my family. From there I will try and look into what is the best option for all of us because I have my wife and two kids to consider in all of this.

“Maybe I will join one of the teams that I have played for before or maybe go to another South American country closer to home with a travel time of three to hours which will be easier for me that being in South Africa.

“Travelling from Johannesburg to Bogota takes on average about 35 hours. With the offers that I have had to stay in South Africa I understand the economic crisis and that I’m 33 and didn’t play much last season but then for me to be far away from home has to make sense to me.

“So I will rather get less being at home or closer to home,” he added.
