Liverpool “Handed” EPL Title As Wolves Beat Manchester City

Reigning champions Manchester City suffered a 3-2 defeat at Wolves that leaves them 14 points behind leaders, Liverpool and Pep Guardiola’s hopes of a third consecutive title are now but virtually extinguished.

Wolves completed the league double over City to move fifth in the table, two points off a Champions League spot, and restricted the visitors to 38 per cent possession, the lowest for any side coached by Guardiola in his career.

This was surely the game that gave Liverpool their first Premier League crown in 30 years and the night when it became clear that the title race is now surely over.

It would take an incredible turn of events and a collapse of unthinkable proportions for a side as accomplished as Liverpool who in the process have forgotten how to lose league games, and are at the peak of their powers, to drop the number of points required and throw this away now.

Liverpool have that 13-point advantage on Leicester and 14-point advantage over Manchester City with a game in hand.

Liverpool now have the joint-highest lead any team has had on Boxing Day in Premier League history – on a par with Manchester United’s advantage in 1993-94, when they went on to become champions.
