Lucas Suarez Faces Another Move After Early Mamelodi Sundowns Exit

Lucas Suarez is preparing for yet another move after returning to Argentina from South Africa, following the premature end of his loan spell at Mamelodi Sundowns. The Argentine defender’s time with the reigning DStv Premiership champions was cut short, and his future remains uncertain with parent club CA Talleres also showing no immediate plans to reintegrate him.

Initially, Suarez joined Sundowns on loan from Talleres in a deal expected to last until the end of the year. The left-footed centre-back was brought in to bolster the Brazilians’ defensive options, but things didn’t go as planned. After just 14 appearances in all competitions, Suarez found himself sidelined, featuring only once in Sundowns’ final 10 matches of the campaign.

One of the key factors contributing to his early exit appears to be related to the club’s foreign player quota. With strict regulations on the number of foreign players permitted, Sundowns opted not to retain Suarez’s services, especially as he was not included in the squad for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.

There is also speculation surrounding a clause in Suarez’s loan contract which may have played a role in his limited game time. Reports suggest that if Suarez had made 15 appearances, an automatic buy option would have been triggered—something the club may have been keen to avoid. With 14 games under his belt, he fell just short of that threshold.

Suarez, now back in Argentina, finds himself in limbo. Talleres, under the guidance of new head coach Diego Cocca, have resumed pre-season training, but the 30-year-old has reportedly been left out of the plans. Sources close to the situation indicate that discussions are already underway to arrange another loan deal, as Talleres look for a new destination for the experienced defender.

With his contract running until the end of next year, Suarez’s representatives will be working to secure a move that offers more consistent game time and stability after a frustrating period in South Africa. Whether that next step will come in Argentina or abroad remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—Lucas Suarez will be packing his bags again soon.
