Lucky Lekgwathi Expresses Pain After His Grootman Restaurant Is Looted! The former Orlando Pirates defender and captain saw his new restaurant suffer from national unrest.
Lucky Lekgwathi’s restaurant, Grootman, was vandalised and looted on Sunday. The entrepreneur revealed that the operations had not been insured, as they were still saving all their earnings.
Lekgwathi went on to reveal that this means he will take nothing from his new venture. The restaurant was only a few months old as it opened in April.
“It’s only been three months since the business opened.” Lucky Lekgwathi revealed to Soccer Laduma.
“It took me two months to build my shop, but it only took them seconds to mess everything up. There is nothing left for me to even claim.
“They have taken the machines, they broke everything – the cables, the lights. It is empty.
“If I start, I need to do everything from scratch. They cleaned everything,” Lekgwathi stressed.
“There is nothing I can take. The only thing I can take is the pamphlets that are all over the floor.
“The problem is that we had not insured the shop because we wanted to make money. We did not have money to insure, so we just wanted to work first and then we were going to insure the place.
“Most of the small businesses of black people are not insured because they cannot afford it. Many of the businesses will never recover.
“I worked very hard for my money, and I thought I should save it. With that little money, I thought I should start a business that will help put something on the table.
“I took my last money for the shop and now how am I going to recover? Should I go steal or borrow money from the bank?
“If the shop does not do well, then I owe the bank. The same people who messed up the shop will one day say that I wasted my money.
“The same people will say our legends waste money. There is a guy on Facebook who said he will help, and others have said they will contribute.
