Sekhukhune succumbed to a 2-0 loss to Kaizer Chiefs in the DSTV Premiership this weekend. Head coach MacDonald Makhubedu was displeased with the final result.
The Glamour Boys scored though Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Phathutshedzo Nange. Ngcobo winning the man of the match award after his stunning display.
“I think we could’ve won the game.
“We were always on the final third especially in the second half. They scored with our mistakes.
“I think they wanted it more than us. Passed around, dictating them.
“Defensive errors, school-boy mistakes and first half there were too many gaps between our number 9 and our number 10.
“Our three players behind the number 9 they were too far from each other. Second half, we came back strong, and they got the killer goal with our mistake.
“I think we could’ve done better. We could’ve…yes, we gave a good performance but mistakes like this are not allowed at this level and it’s a second loss in a row after a run of I think 13 games.
“I think complacency also, and sometimes not being humble we are going down with our performance. Our performance is not convincing enough.
“Some of our balls; even when we lose the ball you could see when we lose the ball some of our attacking players walking it’s unlike our team.
“You know when we lose the ball, its either we work as a team counter-press or push them back, press them on their half, press them high.
“That’s how we play, sometimes we too compact but today it was not, it was just. I don’t know what to call it.
“I think complacency creeped in. I think some of our boys won the game before we could even start with our warm-up,” Makhubedu added
“They were just relaxed. I think we could’ve done better in this game.
“We were not aggressive enough on the ball without the ball. But the mistakes we can allow them but not such mistakes and we are always a disciplined team.
“We are not a team that makes a lot of mistakes like this.
“I think this was just bad for us and our transitions were also bad. We kept on playing back-wards, side-ways allowing them to regroup.
“Even when we were supposed to hurt them, we kept on playing the ball, rotating the ball as if we are playing for ball possession and not results. But we could’ve done better,” he concluded.
