Magesi FC Ready to Test Mamelodi Sundowns in Key Clash

Magesi FC will host Mamelodi Sundowns at Seshego Stadium tonight at 19:30 in a match that could set the tone for both sides early in the 2025/26 season. The Carling Knockout winners are determined to carry their momentum from last season into league play, while Sundowns aim to maintain their dominance.
Assistant coach Jacky Ledwaba expressed confidence in his squad ahead of the encounter. “Currently, we are playing some exciting football. Since John Maduka took over, our style has reached another level. If you look at our first two games this season, we dominated play. Our ball possession against Polokwane City and Stellenbosch FC showed that we are strong and capable,” Ledwaba said.
Magesi’s focus this season has shifted to achieving consistent league performance, with a clear target of finishing in the top eight. Ledwaba added that the team is motivated by their victory over Sundowns in the Carling Knockout final, a result that still resonates with both players and supporters. “It’s no secret that Sundowns are still hurting from what happened in the Carling Knockout final. They were completely confident it would be an easy match, but we ended up breaking their hearts,” he explained.
The assistant coach also encouraged fans to support the team at Seshego Stadium. “We will strive to fly the Limpopo province flag high. Our fans are our 12th player, after all,” he said, highlighting the importance of home support.
Ledwaba is aware of the challenge Sundowns pose, citing the threat of key players. “I see that Arthur Sales at Sundowns is in great form, along with Iqraam Rayners. They are both very dangerous players. It will be a tough challenge facing them,” he added.
With both teams chasing vital early points, Magesi FC will rely on tactical discipline, ball possession, and home support to test the reigning champions. Sundowns, meanwhile, must overcome the threat posed by a motivated Magesi side determined to continue their impressive start. Tonight’s clash promises intensity and could signal whether Magesi can consistently challenge top-tier PSL sides this season.
