Magesi FC Review Coach John Maduka’s Future Amid Defeat to Orlando Pirates

Magesi FC played their first 2026 match on Saturday against Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Amstel Arena, with head coach John Maduka absent from the dugout. The Limpopo-based club is reportedly reviewing his position, with a final decision expected before Tuesday. Insiders revealed that the team’s management has been closely monitoring results and overall performance since the start of the season. The review comes after a string of disappointing results, which has left Magesi struggling near the bottom of the Premier Soccer League standings.
The club confirmed the situation through PRO Abel Rakoma, who told Soccer Laduma that Maduka remains the head coach for now. “We will provide the details in communication after meeting with him on Tuesday. I want to plead with our media to say we be patient with it until Tuesday, then I will be able to liaise with you with respect, he is the head coach of the team,” Rakoma said. The statement indicates that the club is taking a measured approach before making any final decisions. This shows that while Maduka’s position is under review, no immediate changes will be announced.
Maduka joined Magesi FC at the start of the 2025/26 season after leaving the disbanded Royal AM FC. In the 14 matches he has overseen, the former Bloemfontein Celtic captain secured two wins, five draws, and suffered seven losses. The team currently sits at the bottom of the PSL log with 11 points from 15 games. The results underline the challenges the club has faced in establishing consistency and competitiveness this season.
During Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates, assistant coach Abram Nteo managed the team, assisted by Jacky Ledwaba. The match exposed the ongoing difficulties in Magesi’s campaign and highlighted the importance of strong leadership in navigating the remainder of the season. How the team responds in upcoming fixtures could influence the club’s decision regarding Maduka’s future. The final outcome of the review will be communicated after the meeting scheduled for Tuesday.
