Mamelodi Sundowns have quietly strengthened their technical staff with the appointment of Portuguese coach Goncalo Barbosa as performance analyst, following the departure of long-serving analyst Goolam Valodia.
Barbosa’s arrival signals Sundowns’ ongoing commitment to innovation and modern football practices. The 28-year-old UEFA A-licensed coach has a strong European resume, including assistant coaching roles at Vitoria Sport Clube and SC Braga, as well as youth coaching experience at Leixoes SC.
Joining Chloorkop in August 2025, Barbosa brings a data-driven approach to performance analysis. His ability to combine coaching insight with statistical evaluation is expected to provide Sundowns with a tactical edge in both domestic and continental competitions.
