Mamelodi Sundowns Coach Miguel Cardoso Returns to Training Amid Uncertainty

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso was back on the training ground as the club prepares for the new season, but questions over his future continue to linger. Reports suggest the club is exploring its options, including the potential return of former coach Pitso Mosimane.

Sources close to Sundowns indicate that Mosimane is being considered as a possible replacement for Cardoso if the club decides to make a change. Another source confirmed that Cardoso, along with assistant coach Steve Komphela and other members of the technical team, were present at Chloorkop for training, but discussions behind the scenes remain ongoing.

Attempts to contact Mosimane’s wife and agent, Moira Mosimane, were unsuccessful. Mosimane, widely known as “Jingles,” led Sundowns between 2012 and 2020 before moving to Al Ahly in Egypt. He achieved significant success there, winning multiple domestic and continental trophies, including the CAF Champions League twice with two different teams. His achievements earned him an honorary degree from the University of Johannesburg.

Sundowns are also reportedly trying to bring back performance analyst Tinashe-Shingai Makundatsama as part of their technical staff for the new season.

The coming weeks will be critical for Sundowns as they determine the stability of their coaching staff and prepare for domestic and continental competitions. Cardoso’s return to training shows commitment, but the club’s future leadership plans remain uncertain.
