Mamelodi Sundowns Extend Jody February Contract After Injury Comeback

Mamelodi Sundowns have secured goalkeeper Jody February on a new deal beyond the end of this season, agent Mike Makaab has confirmed. February’s contract was originally set to expire at the end of June, but the Tshwane giants have opted to retain the shot-stopper as part of their long-term plans. The goalkeeper missed the start of the season due to an injury that prevented him from joining the squad for the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA. His recovery towards the end of last year has allowed him to return to full fitness, making him a key option for the Sundowns squad moving forward.
February, a former Ajax Cape Town goalkeeper, is believed to have signed a two-year deal with an option to extend for an additional season. The club is ensuring that its goalkeeping department remains well-covered, especially with uncertainty over Denis Onyango’s future in the squad next season. February’s return provides Sundowns with experienced depth between the posts. Agent Mike Makaab confirmed that February is now match fit and ready to contribute fully under coach Manqoba Mngqithi.
Makaab emphasized that the contract is not a short-term arrangement, highlighting the club’s commitment to February’s development and long-term involvement. He added that February had shown promise before his injury, performing well in the few games he played under the current coaching team. The new deal reflects both the club’s faith in his abilities and their intention to ensure he remains a reliable option in goal.
This move comes as part of Sundowns’ broader squad management strategy. The club recently renewed the contract of midfielder Sphelele Mkhulise and is reportedly working on finalizing other player deals in the remaining months of the campaign. Retaining February strengthens the squad’s stability and gives the club flexibility in squad rotation for domestic and continental competitions.
February’s comeback from a serious injury and subsequent contract renewal highlights the club’s commitment to its players’ rehabilitation and long-term planning. With the new deal in place, February can focus on maintaining form and competing for a starting position, ensuring Mamelodi Sundowns remain competitive across all fronts next season.
