Mamelodi Sundowns Facing Disciplinary Crisis Ahead of Kaizer Chiefs Clash

Mamelodi Sundowns’ disciplinary record has continued to rise, with several players in danger of missing their crucial clash against Kaizer Chiefs next weekend.

In their 2-0 win over Mpheni Home Defenders, Sundowns saw their eighth red card of the season when Tashreeq Matthews was sent off, leaving his team to play the entire second half with ten men.

Discipline Concerns at Masandawana

The increasing suspensions among Miguel Cardoso’s squad have raised concerns, with eight players currently on three yellow cards, putting them at risk of missing the match against Chiefs.

Although Matthews will be available for the Betway Premiership encounter against Amakhosi, several of his teammates could be sidelined due to accumulating bookings. Sundowns must navigate matches against Marumo Gallants on Wednesday and TS Galaxy on Saturday before facing Chiefs, making the situation even more precarious.

Players Walking the Suspension Tightrope

Aubrey Modiba and Bathusi Aubaas are among the repeat offenders, having already received red cards in the CAF Champions League and Nedbank Cup, respectively. Aubaas, who just returned from a two-game suspension in the PSL, currently carries three yellow cards and may consider picking up another booking against Gallants to serve his suspension against TS Galaxy rather than risk missing the Chiefs game.

Modiba is also on three yellow cards and must tread carefully with two matches left before the crucial Chiefs showdown.

Kegan Johannes, despite making only two starts in six domestic appearances, already has three yellow cards and is on the verge of suspension.

Other key players who are just one caution away from missing the game against Chiefs include Marcelo Allende, Asekho Tiwani, Grant Kekana, Sphelele Mkhulise, and the injured Mothobi Mvala.

With their disciplinary issues mounting, Sundowns will need to carefully manage their squad selection in the coming fixtures to ensure they have their best players available for the highly anticipated clash against Amakhosi.
