Mamelodi Sundowns Hit the Summit of The Table with Another Win!
Mamelodi Sundowns Hit the Summit of The Table with Another Win! Goals from Lyle Lakay and Keletso Makgalwa secured a 2-0 win for the PSL Champions. They now sit at the top of the table with only 3 games played.
Even though we have only witnessed each team play 3 games this season, the top of the table is a very familiar place for Mamelodi Sundowns.
They beat Cape Town City 2-0 at the Cape Town (Greenpoint) Stadium yesterday evening.
Goals from former Cape Town City player Lyle Lakay and substitute Keletso Makgalwa were enough to see off a spirited Cape Town City side.
Mamelodi Sundowns struggled to maintain ball possession in the manner that they are famed for. The consistently gave Cape Town City opportunities to get at them.
“I think the first half was very good. I want to believe that we should have scored at least four first-half if we took our chances, we were unfortunate not to convert our chances that we got but we were playing against a very dangerous side,” coach Manqoba Mngqithi told SuperSport TV.
“We knew how dangerous they can be on transition, with Martin, Fagrie Lakay, Ralani, they always cause a threat for you, Nodada coming from the midfield, we expected this, Thami Mkhize inverting from the right hand side, coming inside, allowing Martin to be more on the outside.
“But I think we dealt with the situation very well in terms of managing their transitions and maybe breaking the press a little bit with Madisha and Ricardo because Fagrie wanted the space behind Ricardo, which I believe we did that very well,” he continued.
“But I’m still a little bit unhappy, the game was a little scrappy we allowed them moments where they could have easily come back where we could have really buried the game earlier on but it’s work in progress.
“Once again one must commend the work that is being done by the coach, ‘Abednego’ and ‘Shadrack’ have really done a good job, the set-piece that we scored with Lakay they worked on it. It’s really encouraging that things that we’re working on in training are coming out,” Mngqithi continued on.
