Mamelodi Sundowns Recall Ricardo Goss as SuperSport United Succumbs to ‘Club Buying/Selling’ Syndrome

After SuperSport United became the latest PSL club affected by the ongoing trend of ‘club buying and selling,’ Mamelodi Sundowns have made a decisive move regarding goalkeeper Ricardo Goss. The 31-year-old shot-stopper, who has spent recent seasons on loan at SuperSport, is set to return to his parent club at Chloorkop.

Goss is among several players, including veteran defender Thulani Hlatshwayo and striker Bradley Grobler, who have ceased training with the newly rebranded Siwelele FC. Grobler has already moved on to Sekhukhune United, while Hlatshwayo is linked with a potential reunion with coach Gavin Hunt at Durban City FC.

In preparation for Goss’s return, Sundowns have released goalkeeper Sanele Tshabalala, clearing space in the squad. An insider at the Tshwane giants revealed that the club is planning for life beyond longtime first-choice keeper Denis Onyango, who is widely expected to retire next year.

“Goss signed a five-year contract when he joined from Bidvest Wits. He is still under contract with Mamelodi Sundowns. He has been recalled and is expected to fight for the number one jersey with Ronwen Williams,” the source explained.

Ricardo Goss’s return comes after his recent involvement with the Bafana Bafana national team, where he featured in matches against Mozambique and Tanzania during the June international window.

This strategic recall highlights Sundowns’ ambition to maintain a strong squad depth and plan effectively for future transitions, while SuperSport United continues to grapple with squad changes amid shifting club dynamics in the PSL.
