Mamelodi Sundowns Strengthen Title Push Amid High Praise

Mamelodi Sundowns’ pursuit of an eighth consecutive league title received a significant boost following glowing praise from within the PSL, with the team being lauded as the biggest club in Africa.

The Brazilians showcased their dominance with an emphatic 4-1 victory over TS Galaxy in a Betway Premiership clash in Tshwane over the weekend. Goals from Peter Shalulile, Jayden Adams, and a brace from Iqraam Rayners sealed the commanding win, extending their lead at the top of the table to 12 points.

This triumph was particularly satisfying for Sundowns, as it avenged their first-round defeat to Galaxy, where they suffered a narrow 1-0 loss just a fortnight ago.

TS Galaxy head coach Adnan Beganovic acknowledged the magnitude of facing Sundowns, reflecting on his team’s earlier victory against the reigning champions as a major highlight of their season.

“When you plan for games and see Sundowns on the schedule, you have to be realistic. Taking points from Sundowns is a massive achievement,” Beganovic stated.

“They are at a different level from everyone else in the league, with quality players, an exceptional coach, and a well-structured staff. Sundowns is the biggest club in Africa, and having the opportunity to compete against them is an incredible experience.”

Beganovic further expressed pride in his team’s earlier win over Sundowns, calling it the best feeling in their last 13 matches.

Sundowns will now turn their attention to their next league fixture as they prepare to take on Sekhukhune United in Polokwane on Wednesday. The defending champions will be keen to maintain their momentum and further solidify their standing at the summit of the league table.
