Mamelodi Sundowns To Extend Contract of Thapelo Morena! The defender will stay at the club for a couple years longer, at least.

Thapelo Morena will see his stay at Mamelodi Sundowns extended. He is expected to add another two years onto his deal, until 2025.

Since joining Masandawana from Bloemfontein Celtic, he has been one of the most consistent right backs in the PSL. He even became a regular for Bafana Bafana in the position.

The arrival of Khuliso Mudau from Black Leopards gave him more competition. Especially this season, as Mudau’s performances saw him with the DSTV Premiership Defender of the Season award.

“The Brazilians have been busy over the last few days finalising the futures of several out of contract players ahead of what coach Rulani Mokwena has claimed will not be a busy transfer window next month,” SABC Sport reported.

“Morena signed a five-year deal in June 2020 with the latter part of the agreement under then coach Pitso Mosimane split into a clause to only be triggered by Sundowns for a further two seasons.

“The public broadcaster understands the reigning DSTV Premiership champions have gone ahead and exercised it to retain Morena until 2025.”

This means he will continue to fight for a first team berth alongside Khuliso Mudau.

“Thapelo will remain a Sundowns player.” His agent confirmed to SABC Sport.  

“Yes, he has an option for a further two years and the club has illustrated how much they appreciate him. I have the utmost confidence that he will remain at the club for a few more years,” Basia Michaels added.
