Mamelodi Sundowns U14s Secure Impressive 4-2 Victory Over Manchester City in MAHD Intercontinental Championship

The Mamelodi Sundowns U14 team bounced back in style with a commanding 4-2 win over Manchester City in their third match of the ongoing U14s’ MAHD Intercontinental Championship. The Tshwane giants’ development side, having faced disappointing results in their previous two encounters, finally found their rhythm and delivered an excellent performance on Monday.

A Much-Needed Win

Prior to the Manchester City match, Sundowns had struggled in the competition, suffering a 3-0 defeat to Brazilian side Fluminense and a 4-3 penalty loss to hosts Mahd Academy. These setbacks had left them at the bottom of the standings, with Fluminense and Deportivo Cruz Azul at the top.

But against Manchester City, the young South African team showed resilience and skill, overcoming the English side with goals from Hlumile Tshaka, Rorisang Taukobong (who scored a brace), and Thapelo Ndwandwe. The victory propelled Sundowns into third place in the group after three matches.

Goals and Highlights

The match saw Sundowns take control early, with Tshaka opening the scoring. Taukobong then put his name on the scoresheet twice, further cementing their dominance. Ndwandwe sealed the win with a final goal that sent the Sundowns faithful into celebrations.

Interestingly, this was the second consecutive year that Sundowns had defeated Manchester City, having also beaten them at the Kavin De Bruyne Tournament last year.

With the win, Sundowns are back on track in the competition, but their next challenge is against an undefeated Cruz Azul on Wednesday. The clash promises to be a tough test, with kick-off scheduled for 16:00.

As they aim to continue climbing the standings, Sundowns’ impressive performance against Manchester City serves as a statement of their growing potential and competitive spirit in international youth football.
