Mandla Masango is now somewhat of an ambassador for Kaizer Chiefs. He is very thankful that the club paid his school fees while he was still employed by him.

One of the biggest problems footballers face post playing is a way to continue to earn a living. This has marred South African football legends for eons.

A large populous of them seem to struggle in their retirement. The newer generation resorted to studying while playing, or to open businesses, plan for life after football cheques.

Mandla Masango is one such character.

“We can’t fault our clubs, we can’t fault people in and around our circle,” Masango told Velile Mnyandu of SABC Sport.

“We’ve got the brains; we’ve got the hands. For me I’m glad that [Kaizer] Chiefs made me go to school because all that is reaping the rewards.

“So, I’m grateful to Chiefs. I am what I am because of Kaizer Chiefs,” he added.

“The club offered and then paid for my studies. So, I’m really grateful, because basically they gave me something that they could never take back.

“I’m really grateful, I give honor to Mr. Kaizer Motaung for everything he has done for me, and I am what I am today because of his guidance. To be under his leadership and to learn from the likes of Jessica [Motaung], Bobby [Motaung], Arthur [Zwane], Cyril [Nzama] and all those that I played with.

“They also encouraged me to go to school, because I was young at the time and now all that has come to effect. Now I’m a living proof of all of that.”

He confirmed that course he graduated in.

“I studied Business Management.” He concluded.
