Manqoba Mngqithi Believes Mamelodi Sundowns Can Defend MTN 8 Trophy! The Brazilians recently learned their fate in the last four of the tournaments.

Mamelodi Sundowns will play against Orlando Pirates in the semi-finals of the MTN 8. Co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has claimed that they have the ability to defend their trophy.

The Brazilians got the better of SuperSport United in the last 8 of the competition by beating them 2-0 on Sunday evening. They will now face much sterner opposition in the next round.

Last season, Sundowns won the MTN 8 trophy after defeating Cape Town City in the final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. It was the first time they won the trophy in over ten years.

They have every intention of defending this trophy, along with the other two domestic trophies that they won.

“We think our team is capable of defending our trophy, and we will give it our best shot with all the respect that is necessary,” Mngqithi told the Mamelodi Sundowns website.

“Of course, we could never take anyone for granted in this competition. More especially [because] this season everybody is really, really working very hard to show that they are prepared.

“So, we will give it our best shot.” He concluded.
