Matthew Booth, one of S.A’s finest centre backs
South Africa has over the year’s produced top class defenders such as Lucas Radebe and Mark Fish. Despite not being able to play in a league as competetive as the English premiership, Matthew Booth is undoubtedly one of the leading centre backs to come out of S.A.
Booth began his career at Cape Town Spurs before securing a move to Mamelodi Sundowns in 1998. Booth then moved to Russia where he turned out for Rostov and Krylia Sovetov.
The towering centre back then returned to South Africa where he had a stints with Sundowns, Ajax Cape Town and Bidvest Wits before retiring in 2014.
Booth earned 18 under 20 caps, 35 under 23 caps and 37 senior caps.
