Mbongeni Mzimela Helps Platinum Stars Advance In CAF Confederations

Platinum Stars advanced to the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup, after a brace from goalkeeper Mbongeni Mzimela helped secure a 3-1 win over Vipers. Vipers went into the game with a goal advantage but Stars showed their composure and class.

In the first minute of the match Benson Shilongo was fouled inside the box and the penalty was awarded to Platinum Stars. Mzimela stepped up to convert the spot-kick. Stars doubled their lead in the 26th minute courtesy of a fine free-kick from Mabena to make it 2-1 on aggregate. Cavin Johnson’s man were awarded another penalty in the 80th minute. Mzimela stepped up and made no mistake from the spot, 3-1.
Bidvest Wits now join Platinum Stars in the CAF confederations cup after they were knocked out of CAF by Al Alhy in a game that was not officiated fairly. Poor refereeing could not stop Al Alhy from eliminating the Clever Boys from CAF.
