McCarthy Slams Cape Town City Defenders After Losing To Wits! Cape Town City Coach, Benni McCarthy is not happy with his club’s defence after losing 2-1 to Bidvest Wits in an ABSA Premiership match over the weekend.
In a post match interview, McCarthy didn’t hold back criticizing his defence who resulted in the loss. “It’s tough when you’re on the losing side in a game like this but I think it was an exciting game, it was entertaining, it had everything,” he told the media after the match,” he said.
The coach said Wits didn’t deserve their winning goal though he admitted it was a great, entertaining match. “I think, for us, our lapse of concentration at crucial times really cost us because it wasn’t like they [Wits] played to deserve the goals that they scored.
“They opened us up and they created chances….it was just our lapse of concentration. Bad defending at times, two mistakes from [Taariq] Fielies, who usually is ever-so-reliable, and today it was just a bad day at the office for him and he really disappointed his team-mates,” he said.
