Mduduzi Mdantsane Opens Up on Chiefs Struggles and Finding New Life at Richards Bay

Midfielder Mduduzi Mdantsane is relishing a fresh start at Richards Bay FC after enduring a frustrating spell at Kaizer Chiefs, where injuries and lack of opportunities left him sidelined.
A Painful Ordeal at Amakhosi
Mdantsane was one of Chiefs’ long-term injury casualties at the beginning of the season following a car accident that required surgery on his jaw. Though he recovered, he struggled to break into Nasreddine Nabi’s plans, leaving him frustrated on the sidelines.
The 30-year-old finally secured a loan move to Richards Bay in February, a decision he believes was necessary to revive his career. Speaking on Ukhozi FM, he admitted the emotional toll of watching from the stands.
“When I speak about that incident, it still affects me. I don’t like to talk about it. But it was very difficult… not being on the field, knowing what I’m capable of doing,” Mdantsane shared.
“Watching other players perform well, supporting them, but deep down knowing I should be playing—that hurts. It’s painful for any player to go through that. You get affected mentally and spiritually. I always want to be on the field, but I had to accept my situation.”
Uncertain Future at Chiefs
Before his loan move, Mdantsane had yet to feature for Amakhosi this season, despite playing 16 matches in all competitions during the 2023/24 campaign before his accident.
His contract with Chiefs runs until June 2026, but with an expected squad overhaul at the club, his long-term future remains uncertain. Several players not fitting into Nabi’s plans could face contract terminations, and Mdantsane’s fate could depend on how he performs at Richards Bay.
A Chance to Prove Himself
Now at Richards Bay, Mdantsane has a valuable opportunity to reclaim his best form and prove that he still belongs at the highest level. With game time and confidence, he could yet force his way back into contention—whether at Chiefs or another club looking for a creative and experienced playmaker.
