Miguel Cardoso Brings Calm Amid Mamelodi Sundowns Transfer Window Unrest

Mamelodi Sundowns have faced a turbulent transfer window, with uncertainty surrounding several key players. Despite the ongoing unrest, head coach Miguel Cardoso has assured supporters that the team remains united and focused on the task ahead.

The biggest development has been the case of Lucas Ribeiro Costa, who escalated his push to leave by taking his grievances to the FIFA Tribunal after the club rejected offers for his services. At the same time, Khuliso Mudau has yet to feature this season as he continues to resolve outstanding matters with the club.

There is also external interest in youngster Kutlwano Letlhaku, who is wanted in Portugal. A decision on his future is still pending. Peter Shalulile, linked with Tunisian giants Esperance, had issues to iron out but has since returned to the squad. Similarly, Thapelo Morena required contract-related engagements before making his comeback.

With so many uncertainties, concerns have grown about the possible negative impact on the squad’s cohesion. Cardoso, however, has dismissed any suggestions of instability.

“My locker room is full of energy to deal with everything that we have to face,” Cardoso stated. “Mamelodi Sundowns is not making any kind of noise around whatever happens. We are preserving everything inside the locker room doors.”

The Portuguese coach emphasized the strength of the team’s culture and unity. “The locker room is impossible to be ripped. It is impossible to be broken by these kinds of things. The values inside the club are too strong,” he explained.

Cardoso pointed out that the focus remains on preparation and performance rather than distractions. “With these kinds of events, the focus is so strong on becoming better, on working on preparing for every match. The time is so small that the levels of concentration must be so high that we don’t have to react to what happens around,” he said.

The coach also outlined the philosophy that has carried Sundowns to success in recent years. “We always have the philosophy that if someone falls, two should rise. That is how we develop character, how we shape character. That is how the story of Mamelodi Sundowns has been written. By strong characters, by strong values, by strong people. Whatever happens is always solved inside doors and in the best way possible.”

Cardoso’s message is clear. Despite the noise around transfer speculation and contractual disputes, Sundowns remain grounded, with their eyes firmly on maintaining dominance in South African football.
