Miguel Cardoso Confident Amid Sundowns Exit Speculation

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has dismissed recent speculation about his future at Chloorkop, insisting he remains focused and unfazed by rumors linking Pitso Mosimane with a surprise return. Despite two weeks of persistent chatter, the Portuguese coach appears firmly backed by the club and continues to lead Sundowns at the top of the Betway Premiership.

Sundowns began 2026 with a 2-0 victory over Orbit College at Loftus Stadium on January 19, moving to 29 points and reclaiming the league summit ahead of Orlando Pirates, who have two matches in hand. Following the match, Cardoso addressed the media, emphasizing the club’s unity and internal leadership. “The problem is that these days people discuss things on the phones and speak about things they have absolutely no idea about, and that gives a lot of echo to things that don’t exist,” he said.

The 53-year-old highlighted that Sundowns is guided from within, not by outside noise. He praised the club’s strong sporting direction, technical staff, and lockerroom unity, adding that external speculation has little impact on the team. “The doors of Chloorkop are so strong that those kinds of things don’t enter. We are united and we know what we have to do,” Cardoso said.

Cardoso also addressed social media speculation surrounding a recent Instagram post featuring lyrics from late musician David Bowie. The post, which marked ten years since Bowie’s passing, was misinterpreted by some as a hint about his future. “This post about David Bowie… besides football, there are other things I like, and one of them is music. It’s so clear, it’s so simple,” Cardoso clarified.

He reassured fans that his future does not depend solely on football, and the focus remains on Sundowns’ objectives. With high expectations for the league title and the CAF Champions League, Cardoso’s message was clear: Sundowns operate with a strong internal structure, and external rumors will not dictate their path.

The club and coach now turn attention to sustaining their form in the league while keeping ambitions alive on the continental stage, confident in the stability and leadership at Chloorkop.
