Bongani Zungu hailed for Portuguese move
Bongani Zungu’s pre-contract agreement with Portugal’s Vitoria de Guimaraes has attracted different reactions from the South African football fraternity.
SAFA president Danny Jordan hailed the move saying “Most young players must strive 2 play in Europe’s competitive major leagues. It makes them grow career-wise & it toughens them.”
Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane is delighted by Zungu’s move to Europe despite expressing disappointment at having to let go of his priced asset,”Bongani Zungu’s story is like when a father hands over the daughter to get married. You happy but you are not happy.”
Zungu follows in the footsteps of former Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy who played for FC Porto in the Portuguese topflight league.
