Mngqithi Had Offers Abroad Before Golden Arrows Return

Even though Manqoba Mngqithi officially rejoined Golden Arrows this week, reports suggest that the experienced coach had offers from clubs in North Africa and the Middle East following his departure from Mamelodi Sundowns.
The 53-year-old tactician parted ways with the Brazilians in early December last year and was replaced by Miguel Cardoso. After spending nearly 11 years at Chloorkop in various roles, Mngqithi briefly took over as head coach at the start of the 2024/25 season before his exit.
Interest from Egypt and the Middle East
According to his agent, Mike Makaab, Mngqithi had opportunities to continue his coaching career outside South Africa but opted to return to Arrows on a short-term deal instead.
“There was interest, in particular in North Africa. I don’t want to mention the club, but there was a club in Egypt,” Makaab told KickOff.com.
“He also had interest in the Middle East because, as you know, coaches like Rulani Mokwena and Pitso Mosimane have been successful in those parts of the world.
“But for coach Manqoba, the most important thing is the project, not just the club itself. If the project excites him, then that becomes the priority.”
Future Abroad Still a Possibility?
With Mngqithi currently focused on helping Arrows improve their form, questions remain about whether he will consider a move abroad once his short-term deal expires.
“I believe things unfold best when you don’t force them,” Makaab added. “Right now, he is 100% focused on getting Arrows to start winning again. After that, we will decide on his future.”
Mngqithi’s return to the dugout will see him immediately face his former club, Mamelodi Sundowns, at Mpumalanga Stadium on Wednesday evening.
