Black Leopards defeated Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 in the DSTV Premiership yesterday. Interim coach Morgan Shivambu was well aware of the effects that travelling would have on their opponents.

Shivambu was also extremely pleased with the manner which his team turned the tide around. They fell behind through a Leonardo Castro goal in the 10th minute.

However, Tiklas Thutlwa scored a brace which handed the hosts the win.

“The only thing that worked for us was to deal with the second balls from Chiefs, that was our plan because we knew playing-wise they will never match us,” Shivambu told SuperSport TV after the match.

“But with long balls because they’ve got big guys we have to deal with the second ball. We didn’t start well, first ten minutes we conceded a goal because of those second balls.

“But from there we regrouped, played well, we moved the ball quicker because we knew they are just coming from Tanzania, they will never last 90 minutes,” he confidently added.

“That’s what we kept on telling them to rotate the ball, move it quicker so that the tempo will go down for them. We knew they will never last 90 minutes.

Gavin Hunt has been criticised for his direct approach to matches, often referred to as Helicopter Football. Shivambu was well aware that they would face a myriad of long balls.

“If you can check the way Castro and Ethen we pushing on the right side, we knew Sampson is not someone who likes going forward, he gives us cover at the back when we’re having three,” he said.
