Nasreddine Nabi Defends Kaizer Chiefs’ Rebuilding Process Despite Defeat to Richards Bay

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi remains steadfast in his belief that his team is still in a rebuilding phase, despite suffering a shocking 2-0 defeat to Richards Bay. The loss at the King Zwelithini Stadium marked Amakhosi’s ninth defeat of the season, leaving their hopes of securing a top-eight finish hanging in the balance.

Struggles Continue for Chiefs

With only 22 matches played, Kaizer Chiefs have lost more games than they have won, sparking growing concerns over their performance. The recent defeat saw Fezile Gcaba and Yanela Mbuthuma finding the back of the net for Richards Bay, exposing Amakhosi’s defensive frailties once again. Despite this, Chiefs remain in eighth place, though their grip on a top-half finish is tenuous at best.

Nabi, who has been in charge for eight months, continues to insist that the team is progressing according to plan. “We are building a team, and a big team like Kaizer Chiefs doesn’t come together in just six or seven months. It takes time,” the Tunisian coach explained. “We know exactly what we need to improve this team and this club. The results of a single game won’t change our vision.”

Injuries and Squad Depth Issues

While the loss was disappointing, Chiefs received a boost with the return of Edson Castillo and Sibongiseni Mthethwa from injury. Castillo, who had been sidelined for more than five months, is expected to add stability to the midfield. However, the team suffered another setback as Rushwin Dortley underwent successful surgery and will miss the rest of the season.

With Dortley out, Given Msimango has stepped up in defense, but the squad’s overall depth remains a concern. Nabi will need to find solutions quickly to ensure Chiefs remain competitive in the final stretch of the season.

Upcoming Clash Against Golden Arrows

Next on the agenda for Kaizer Chiefs is a crucial league encounter against Lamontville Golden Arrows. The international break provides Nabi and his technical team a chance to regroup, address the team’s shortcomings, and work on tactical adjustments.

With pressure mounting and expectations high, the coming weeks will be pivotal for Chiefs as they aim to turn their season around and secure a respectable finish in the Premier Soccer League.
