Mamelodi Sundowns Confirm Departure of Thembinkosi Lorch

Mamelodi Sundowns have officially announced the departure of attacking midfielder Thembinkosi Lorch. The 32-year-old leaves the club after joining during the January 2024 transfer window.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the club thanked Lorch for his contributions, highlighting his impact during his time at Chloorkop. Lorch made 26 appearances, scored seven goals, and provided four assists, helping the Brazilians secure one league title.
“After two unforgettable years, one league title, 26 appearances, seven goals and four assists, the Yellow Nation thanks and celebrates Thembinkosi Lorch,” read the statement. “Wishing you all the best as you start the next chapter of your journey.”
The midfielder had spent the latter half of the 2024/25 season on loan at Wydad Casablanca. His move came under former Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena, who facilitated the temporary switch. Reports now indicate that Lorch is set to complete a permanent transfer back to the Moroccan giants.
Lorch’s stint at Sundowns followed his long spell with Orlando Pirates, where he established himself as one of the PSL’s most influential players. His arrival at Chloorkop was seen as a statement signing aimed at bolstering the team’s attacking options for continental and domestic competitions.
While his time with the Brazilians was relatively short, his contributions on the field left a mark. Fans will remember his key goals in tight league matches and his ability to change the game with quick, incisive play.
A return to Wydad Casablanca would see Lorch competing once again in the CAF Champions League, a competition where both he and the Moroccan club have significant ambitions.
