Nyasha Mushekwi Fumes & Frustrated As Donated Bus Is Sadly Impounded By Zim Tax Authorities
The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) have said the luxurious bus bought by former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Nyasha Mushekwi for his former Zimbabwean club, Caps United should be brought into their custody pending a review of the duty which the Zimbabwe international footballer paid to bring it into this country.
ZIMRA is reportedly investigating the duty paid for the bus’s entrance into Zimbabwe yet the striker personally flew in from his base to clear the bus and pay the required duty at the Beitbridge Border Post and then handed it over to CAPS United officials.
ZIMRA is saying the duty he paid for the bus is smaller than what they now believe to be the value of the luxury bus and signs show that they intend to increase the duty by a large figure.
Mushekwi revealed that the taxman has gone as far as getting written confirmation from the bus suppliers in China to get the real value of the bus.
The international footballer bought the bus as a thank you gesture for his former club credited for grooming him and providing the foundation for his professional football career, which also took him to South Africa, Sweden and Belgium.
An infuriated Mushekwi now regrets having bought the bus for Caps United given how complicated and frustrating it has become to bring the bus to his former club.
He was apparently baffled by the developments which he said were confusing and disappointing.
I just heard they (Zimra) are taking the bus, it’s quite disappointing, I don’t understand the situation because they were the ones who told me to pay the duty which I paid for the bus to be cleared to come home. I don’t even understand why now because everything that we paid is exactly what they demanded after they had requested the supplier to confirm the price,”
Now, I’m hearing they are saying the duty I paid wasn’t enough for a bus like the one I brought in and, maybe, they want me to pay more, I don’t really know.
What I can say is that the news is very disappointing, especially after you have done everything to try and help sport in your country, and – for me – it’s like saying in Zimbabwe one can’t do something good and it gets celebrated because this is our country and we are the ones who can make a difference.
It makes you think twice, when such things happen, and you end up asking yourself if this was worth it, at all, or I could have taken whatever money I invested into the project and use it for my personal needs where I would not have to go through all these problems.
The 45-seater coach cost US$120 000 (R1 750 000) and adding all the expenses incurred during its delivery, the amount surpassed US$200 000 (R2.9 million).
