On this day – 11 May 2019
This Monday 11 May marks a year since Downs lifted their 9th Premiership title after beating Free State Stars 1 – 0 with a goal from substitute Phakamani Mahlambi. Downs had several chances but it wasn’t until Mahlabi who replaced an injured Gaston Sirino scored late in the first half that Downs secured the title.
The goal not only earned Sundowns a record-extending ninth Absa Premiership title, it also condemned Stars to relegation on the day.
Mosimane set a few records on the day too, becoming the first coach to win the Absa Premiership four times with the same club, overtaking Gavin Hunt, who led SuperSport United to three league titles from 2008-2010.
The Brazilians golden era continues as Bafana ba style look to make it 3 in a row by taking the 2019/20 crown.
