Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs in Race for Samkelo Maseko

Highly-rated winger Samkelo Maseko has emerged as a transfer target for both Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, with both clubs reportedly making direct contact to assess his contractual situation with Durban City.

Pirates and Chiefs Express Interest

Maseko, who is capable of operating on both the left and right wings, has impressed this season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. His performances have played a crucial role in Durban City’s push for promotion, with the KwaZulu-Natal outfit currently leading the race to return to the DStv Premiership.

Sources indicate that both Pirates and Chiefs have already inquired about the 24-year-old winger’s availability and have been directed to discuss the matter with Durban City.

“Both clubs have made contact with the player and (have been) referred to Durban City. It’s not clear the length of his contract with Durban City,” a source close to the situation revealed.

Maseko’s Rising Stock

The winger showcased his ability over the weekend, finding the back of the net in Durban City’s 1-1 draw against the University of Pretoria in Tshwane. His growing reputation has not gone unnoticed, and a move to the top flight appears increasingly likely.

Pirates Strengthening for the Future

Orlando Pirates have already made moves in the transfer market, securing the services of Kabelo Kgositsile from Baroka FC. Additionally, Tshepang Moremi from AmaZulu FC is expected to join the Soweto giants as they continue to strengthen their squad for the upcoming campaign.

With both Chiefs and Pirates vying for Maseko’s signature, Durban City may soon have to decide whether to cash in on their star man or retain him for their DStv Premiership promotion ambitions.
