Orlando Pirates Confirm Signing of Oswin Appollis After Beating Big Three Rivals

Orlando Pirates have wasted no time in strengthening their squad for the upcoming season, announcing the signing of Oswin Appollis just a week after landing midfielder Sipho Mbule. The Buccaneers have beaten stiff competition from South Africa’s traditional Big Three, with Appollis having been linked with both Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs in recent weeks.

Appollis, one of the most sought-after attacking talents in the DStv Premiership, has impressed with his creative play and technical ability during his time at Polokwane City. His standout performances over the past season had several top clubs chasing his signature, but it’s Pirates who have sealed the deal.

In a short but impactful statement, the club confirmed: “Orlando Pirates is pleased to welcome Oswin Appollis.”

The 22-year-old winger is expected to add much-needed dynamism and versatility to the Pirates attack. His ability to operate both as a wide player and a central attacking midfielder gives new head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou more tactical options as the team prepares for a busy 2025/26 campaign.

Appollis enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2024/25, scoring five goals and registering four assists in the league, while earning praise for his dribbling, passing range, and eye for goal. His consistent displays also earned him a Bafana Bafana call-up, where he made his senior international debut earlier this year.

The signing signals Pirates’ serious intent to challenge for silverware in the new season, with the club now boasting an impressive roster of midfield and attacking talent. With the recent addition of Sipho Mbule and the potential return of Monnapule Saleng, competition for places in the Pirates starting eleven is set to intensify.

Supporters are eagerly waiting to see how Appollis fits into Ouaddou’s system, especially with pre-season preparations, including a training camp in Spain, just around the corner.
