Orlando Pirates Conquer Soweto Derby In High-Scoring Affair

Orlando Pirates emerged victorious over their archrivals Kaizer Chiefs in the highly anticipated Soweto Derby clash at the gigantic FNB stadium on Saturday afternoon. The final scoreline read 3-2 with Orlando Pirates celebrating a much-needed win in front of their home crowd.

The match was a tight affair from the outset, with both teams looking to assert dominance. However, Kaizer Chiefs managed to break the deadlock in 5 minutes with Ashley Du Preez finding the roof of the net after Pule Mmodi slipped him through.

Nevertheless, Kaizer Chiefs’ lead was short-lived as Orlando Pirates surged ahead with exceptional football, with Monnapule Saleng slotting the ball into the bottom corner past Kaizer Chiefs’ goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma to put the two teams on level terms.

With the pulsating encounter on level terms, it was the Amakhosi Boys that braved the intensity. Orlando Pirates players were found wanting in the transition as Kazier Chiefs capitalized on their opponent’s blunder with Mmodi going forward one one-on-one setting up for Ashely Du Preez to put the visitors on the front seat.

In the 58th minute, Thabiso Lebitso was found unmarked by Deon Hotto, approximately 30 yards from the goal. Hotto delivered a precise pass, allowing Lebitso to unleash a thunderous strike that flew past Bvuma, levelling the score at 2-2.

Saleng secured the victory for the Sea Robbers by completing his brace in the 68th minute, as Orlando Pirates swiftly snatched all three points from Kaizer Chiefs. Maswanganyi’s precise pass set up the goal, making it 3-2 in favour of the Bucs.
