Orlando Pirates Contemplate Future of Katlego Otladisa After Underwhelming Spell

Orlando Pirates are weighing their options regarding winger Katlego Otladisa, whose time with the club has fallen short of expectations. The 28-year-old, once tipped for stardom after a promising start to his career, has struggled to make a lasting impact in the black and white jersey.
Otladisa spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Sekhukhune United, aiming to rediscover the spark that once led to his high-profile move to Mamelodi Sundowns from the now-defunct Platinum Stars. However, his performances failed to ignite interest from within the Pirates camp, and he was among the group of players left behind for the club’s pre-season tour to Spain.
Others excluded from the overseas camp include Olisa Ndah, Thuso Moleleki, Sbusiso Tau, Selaela Rasebotja, and Zakhele Lepasa. Moleleki has already found a new home, sealing a move to Betway Premiership newcomers Orbit College FC, while Pirates continue to reshuffle their squad.
Midfielders Goodman Mosele and Azola Tshobeni have been loaned to Chippa United, and sources indicate that Rasebotja may follow the same path. Discussions are reportedly underway concerning several of the sidelined players, including young prospects like Jabulani Mokone and Neo Mokoena, who are both expected to be sent out on loan for the upcoming campaign.
However, Otladisa’s situation appears more final. According to insiders within the Pirates setup, the club is preparing to part ways with the winger permanently. “Pirates are going to meet some of the players that were left behind and discuss their future. Players like Jabulani Mokone and Neo Mokoena are set to go out on loan, whilst Otladisa is set to be released,” a source revealed.
This comes as Pirates continue an aggressive rebuild ahead of the 2025/26 season. The Buccaneers have already brought in over 10 new signings, including midfield maestro Sipho Mbule, rising star Tshepang Moremi, as well as Sinoxolo Kwayiba and Sipho Nduli. With the club reinforcing key positions, Otladisa’s departure would make room for fresher, in-form talent as coach Jose Riveiro sharpens his squad for domestic and continental competition.
The coming days could prove decisive for Otladisa’s future, as he looks to either secure a new home or fight for redemption elsewhere in the DStv Premiership.
