Orlando Pirates Eye Lineup Changes Ahead of CAF Champions League Clash

Orlando Pirates are set to make adjustments to their lineup in search of goals in their upcoming fixtures, including a highly anticipated CAF Champions League encounter against Egyptian giants Al Ahly on Saturday.

The Buccaneers recently suffered a setback, experiencing their first League defeat of the season with a 1-0 loss to Stellenbosch FC at Orlando Stadium. It marked the first time this campaign that Pirates had failed to score, raising questions about their offensive setup.

Despite this, the team is preparing for a crucial fixture against Al Ahly, and reports suggest that coach José Riveiro may be considering changes in attack. One key possibility is the return of Tshegofatso Mabasa to the starting lineup.

Mabasa, who was a regular starter early in the season, has scored four goals across all competitions, including one in the Champions League preliminary stages. His return could bolster Pirates’ attacking options, especially after Evidence Makgopa, who has started in recent matches, has struggled in the Champions League. The 24-year-old striker, despite his four goals in the league and additional contributions in the MTN8 and Carling Knockout, has not found the back of the net in three Champions League appearances.

A source close to the team revealed, “Mabasa has been working hard in training, and don’t be surprised if he wins his place in the starting eleven.”

As Pirates prepare for the monumental clash against Al Ahly, it’s clear that the club is exploring ways to revitalize their attacking line and secure a crucial result in the prestigious competition. The match on Saturday is set to be a defining moment for the team as they look to regain their momentum and make a statement on the continental stage.
