Orlando Pirates Face Deano Van Rooyen Setback Ahead of MTN8 Semi-Final Second Leg

Orlando Pirates have received a crucial injury update ahead of their MTN8 semi-final second-leg clash against Mamelodi Sundowns at Lucas Moripe Stadium. The first leg ended in a 1-1 draw at Orlando Stadium, setting the stage for a high-stakes encounter this weekend.

Right-back Deano Van Rooyen suffered an injury during Pirates’ midweek 1-0 league victory over Stellenbosch FC. He was stretchered off in the 20th minute and replaced by Sipho Mbule, leaving head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou uncertain about his availability.

“I have an idea, but we don’t have definitive feedback from the medical department. What I can tell you is that the guy will not be available. We still need to go through assessments and understand the type of injury,” Ouaddou said during the pre-match press conference.

Van Rooyen’s absence could see Kamogelo Sebelebele deployed at right wingback, as was the case in the first leg, although managing the MTN8’s intensity may present challenges for the pacey attacker.

Meanwhile, the club has received encouraging injury updates. Captain Nkosinathi Sibisi, Thabiso Sesane, Tapelo Xoki, and Thabiso Lebitso are reportedly on the road to recovery. Additionally, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Lebone Seema, Deon Hotto, Nkosikhona Ndaba, and Tshepho Mashiolane are fully available in defence, providing depth for Ouaddou.

Kick-off is scheduled for 15:00, with Pirates aiming to overturn the tie and secure a place in the MTN8 final. The team will need to balance attacking ambition with defensive stability as they challenge Sundowns in a do-or-die encounter.
