Orlando Pirates Face Defensive Challenges Ahead of Siwelele Clash

Orlando Pirates have received a defensive blow ahead of their Betway Premiership fixture against Siwelele FC, despite the return of club captain Nkosinathi Sibis. The Soweto giants are preparing to build on their 3-0 victory over Lesotho’s Lioli FC in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round.

Pirates currently have nine points from five league matches. A win against Siwelele could see them rise as high as fourth on the standings. However, squad depth at the back is a concern.

Defenders Deano Van Rooyen and Thabiso Sesane are still not match-fit despite returning to training. Olisa Ndah remains sidelined, while Tapelo Xoki continues his recovery following a recent road accident involving the team. The defensive options thinned further when right-back Tshepho Mashoilane was loaned to Sekhukhune United.

Head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou now has Bandile Shandu, Lebone Seema, Thabiso Lebitso, Nkosikhona Ndaba, Deon Hotto, and Mbekezeli Mbokazi as primary choices to form the back four. Midfielder Selaelo Rasebotja is also out with injury, limiting options in midfield.

Siwelele, meanwhile, have strengthened their squad with the arrival of Kegan Johannes on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns and free agent Zakhele Lepasa, who left Pirates in July.

Pirates will need to manage their defensive resources carefully while maintaining momentum in both league and continental competitions. The upcoming match against Siwelele will test the squad’s depth and resilience under challenging circumstances.
