Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are long term rivals on the pitch, but share business interests off it. They share sponsors such as telecommunications company Vodacom and alcohol brand Black Label.
Through Vodacom, they created a campaign Score for Food. Both clubs donated R5 000 for every goal scored in the DSTV Premiership.
Kaizer Chiefs scored 34 league goals this season. This means that they raised R170 000.
Orlando Pirates scored 33 league goals. Raising R165 000.
So, in total both Chiefs and Pirates raised R355 000 for charity.
“Orlando Pirates partnered up with Vodacom in the Score for Food Initiative this morning.” Orlando Pirates tweeted.
“For every Buccaneers goal scored this season, a R5 000 food parcel will be donated to the Zodwa Khoza Foundation and its communities” the club said.
“Score for Food!” Kaizer Chiefs said.
“Vodacom donated R5 000 per goal scored by Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates this past season. The Glamour Boys and Buccaneers packed food parcels this morning in Soweto. Thank you Vodacom for this great CSI initiative.”
