Orlando Pirates Secure Star Goalkeeper Sipho Chaine Until 2028

Orlando Pirates are believed to have tied down one of their most critical players for the long haul, with reports indicating that first-choice goalkeeper Sipho Chaine has agreed to a new deal that will keep him at the club until June 2028.

According to sources close to the negotiations, Chaine’s current contract was due to expire at the end of the 2024/25 season. However, after weeks of discussions, the 28-year-old is said to have put pen to paper on a three-year extension, which includes significantly improved terms compared to his original agreement when he joined from Chippa United in 2022.

“At first it was the offer from the club to the player, but now the new deal is as good as done,” a source close to the situation told Soccer Laduma. “It’s believed to be a three-year contract with better conditions, and all parties are happy.”

Chaine has firmly established himself as a key figure between the posts for the Buccaneers. His commanding presence, consistency, and shot-stopping ability have made him a fan favourite and a cornerstone of Jose Riveiro’s side, particularly during the club’s recent cup successes and their ongoing pursuit of PSL title glory against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Pirates Reshaping Their Goalkeeping Department

The new deal for Chaine signals more than just continuity—it also points to a strategic reshuffle in the goalkeeping department. Another insider confirmed that Pirates are planning to loan out some of their goalkeepers next season to ensure they gain valuable game time, with Chaine and Melusi Buthelezi expected to remain the top two choices.

“They will decide who stays as the third-choice keeper while having the DDC (Development Diski Challenge) goalkeeper train with the senior squad,” said the insider.

The reshuffle aims to build depth and ensure the club is future-ready while maintaining a competitive edge between the sticks.

Chaine’s Journey with the Buccaneers

Since arriving at the club two years ago, Chaine has undergone a remarkable rise. Initially viewed as backup, he quickly seized his opportunity and now serves as a leader in the squad. His performances have been instrumental in several big matches, and he continues to be a dependable presence in goal during high-stakes fixtures, including derby clashes and cup finals.

As Orlando Pirates look to close the gap on Sundowns and remain a dominant force in South African football, securing Chaine’s services long-term is a major boost. His commitment to the club reinforces the Buccaneers’ ambitions both domestically and continentally.

While official confirmation from the club is still pending, all signs point to a successful conclusion of negotiations and a bright future for Chaine in the black and white of Pirates.
