Orlando Pirates Set to Sign Andre de Jong from Stellenbosch FC

Orlando Pirates are poised to make a significant addition to their squad as Stellenbosch FC attacker Andre de Jong is expected to complete his move to the Soweto giants this week. The New Zealand international reportedly informed Stellenbosch of his decision, with Pirates’ offer proving too strong to resist.

A source close to the negotiations confirmed de Jong’s transparency throughout the process. “I spoke to him, and he was very open. He said, ‘Look, man, I’m leaving – the offer from Pirates was quite tempting.’ He is expected to make the switch to his new club this week,” the source said.

Pirates’ persistent pursuit of de Jong played a key role in finalising the deal. The club repeatedly inquired about his availability, signalling their intent to strengthen the squad during the mid-season window. The source explained that Stellenbosch found it difficult to reject the offer, given both Pirates’ persistence and the longstanding positive relationship between the two clubs.

Pirates and Stellenbosch have completed several transfers smoothly in recent seasons, fostering trust that has eased negotiations. This relationship reportedly helped accelerate de Jong’s potential move once Pirates formalised their bid.

The Buccaneers aim to reinforce all areas of the squad as they continue their push for league honours. With two trophies already secured this season – the MTN8 and Carling Knockout – the club intends to maintain momentum heading into the new year.

“Pirates are strengthening the side so they can put up a very, very contested fight against Sundowns in the league race. With the quality they have now, they are on equal footing with Sundowns to challenge for the title,” the insider added.

De Jong’s arrival is expected to add depth and versatility to Orlando Pirates’ attacking options, giving coach Abdeslam Ouaddou more tactical flexibility as the club targets continued domestic success.
