Mamelodi Sundowns beat Summerfield’s Dynamos 5-0 in the Nedbank Cup this weekend. Striker Pavol Safranko came off the bench to score the fifth goal.
It was the strikers first goal since returning from injury. While he was out injured, other players in the massive Sundowns roster got the opportunity to claim a first team berth.
Players like Kermit Erasmus have come in and done well. Safranko understands that he will have to fight for his place back in the first XI.
“I feel fine,” Safranko told the Mamelodi Sundowns website.
“I haven’t played in a long time because I was injured so it was nice to be on the pitch and to score.
“Sundowns is not a small team. We have very good players and if you’re out for even one day, the next four guys are waiting for their chance, and they will play well.
“It’s not that easy to come back. But I will do my best and work hard.”
The Slovakian striker scored after a cross from Gaston Sirino found him at the far post. He headed the ball back across the keeper to score the goal.
“Credit must go to the coaching staff, as well as the analysts because when we watched this team’s videos they said in the set-pieces, more especially the free kicks, the far post is always free, so I was thinking about it and Gaston gave me the perfect pass and it was not so hard to score from this.” He concluded.
