Pelé has passed away in hospital at the age of 82, after a long battle with cancer. The Brazilian was hospitalised at the beginning of the month.

He is widely regarded as the greatest player to ever play the game. Pelé remains the only footballer to win the FIFA World Cup on three occasions.

“On his journey, Edson enchanted the world with his genius in sport, stopped a war, carried out social works all over the world and spread what he most believed to be the cure for all our problems: love. His message today becomes a legacy for future generations.

The legend of Pelé will live on forever. FIFA named him the footballer of the past century.
