Percy Tau’s Reported Salary Demands Could Stall Zamalek Move Amid Zizo Exit Rumours

Reports emerging from Egypt have intensified speculation around Percy Tau’s potential transfer to Zamalek SC, with fresh claims detailing the South African star’s financial expectations should a move materialise.
The Egyptian Premier League giants are believed to be weighing up a bold move for Tau, who is currently plying his trade at Qatar SC. This comes as Zamalek brace for the likely departure of their talismanic forward Ahmed Sayed, popularly known as “Zizo”.
With interest from Al Ahly and various Middle Eastern clubs reportedly building around Zizo, Zamalek are eager to find a suitable replacement. According to several Egyptian media outlets, including Mawlana and Zahraa, the club’s technical committee has earmarked Percy Tau as a leading candidate.
However, negotiations could hit a stumbling block due to Tau’s alleged salary requirements. The 30-year-old attacker is reportedly seeking an annual package of $1.4 million (approximately R25 million), a figure Zamalek’s hierarchy is said to consider excessive under their current financial structure.
Tau, who previously enjoyed a successful stint with Al Ahly before moving to Qatar SC in early 2024, is also said to be wary of the optics surrounding a switch to their arch-rivals. Sources close to the player suggest he is open to entertaining competitive offers but remains inclined toward continuing his career in the Gulf region.
Since joining Qatar SC, Tau has shown glimpses of his trademark creativity, contributing four assists in nine appearances, according to data from Transfermarkt. His form has reportedly caught the attention of scouts across the Middle East, further complicating Zamalek’s pursuit.
For now, Zamalek’s ambitions to land a high-calibre replacement for Zizo rest on their ability to either match Tau’s wage expectations or persuade him with the promise of a prominent role and long-term project at the club. As the summer transfer window approaches, all eyes will be on whether the Cairo club can pull off one of the most high-profile signings in the region.
