Jose Mourinho Commiserates Benni McCarthy‘s COTM Award! The AmaZulu coach was awarded the Coach of the Month for January/February.
In this period, Usuthu collected 15 points from a possible 24. They also went on an impressive 7 match unbeaten run.
Incredibly, AmaZulu’s last defeat was a 1-0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs on the 13th of January. After this run, McCarthy was awarded with the Coach of the Month accolade for his achievement.
“My striker is now coach of the month!!!!” Mourinho said on Instagram.
“Ola Mister, como estás (how are you?) I’ve learned from the very best in the Game” McCarthy said in response.
McCarthy took to his Instagram to thank his technical staff and players for their work. He dedicated the award to them.
“I am very humbled and very grateful, but I think it is always beautiful and nice when you work hard and achieve things, but in our job there is no I in team,” McCarthy told the media after receiving the accolade.
“I cannot solely take the credit for receiving the Coach of the Month award, I have got an amazing technical team group who are behind me and have worked with me to ensure that the players’ every need is covered so that they can go out there and perform, and win football matches.
“As much as it is mine, it is theirs as the technical team too but also the biggest credit must go to the players. They go out there each and every weekend to play matches and put in the hard work,” the coach concluded.
It was a double victory for Usuthu as defender Tapelo Xoki won the Goal of the Month. His last minute free kick secured all 3 points against Bloemfontein Celtic in February
“I would like to thank everyone who voted for me,” Xoki said.
“It means a lot. It is rare you find a defender getting a goal of the month, it is a great feeling and it just adds to the year that we have been having. Hopefully, it continues, and we hope that everyone out there keeps on supporting us.” He added.
