PICS! See What Rulani Mokwena Usually Does When Not Coaching At Downs

Rulani Mokwena is arguably the best of all under 40 years of age football coaches in South Africa. He has walked the long journey as he began at a young age. Being granted an opportunity by Pitso Mosimane to serve as an assistant coach at Mamelodi Sundowns is perhaps one thing that brought him to the limelight.

But prior to that, he cooked his talent in Kasi football where he learnt to manage a team while under pressure of all the crowd that attend the games in townships. Even as a Sundowns co-coach now, he still shows up and coach part time in Kasi. Take a look below.

RULANI MOKWENA ON SUNDOWNS’ UPCOMING SIGNINGS

Mamelodi Sundowns are kind of holding back somewhat in this transfer window. According to their co-coach Rulani Mokwena, gone are the “days of seeing about eight signings at Sundowns”. The treble winners have only added Sipho Mbule, Abdelmounaim Boutouil and Abubeker Nasir to their squad.

As Mokwena had said before the end of last campaign that they would release some players, George Maluleka and Sibusiso Vilakazi found themselves out of the door at Chloorkop. Mokwena says three more signings are still to come, however, it’s unclear if that three includes Boutouil whom they have not unveiled officially yet.

“We are very happy with the team that we have and the days of seeing about eight signings at Sundowns are over. There’s probably three more to come through the door, nothing more than that,” said Downs co-head coach Rulani Mokwena as per The Citizen.

“We try to sign in relation to the needs of the team and now we are trying to sign according to how we want to play this season. We did a bit of work in the last two seasons and we brought in some good players which we feel have set a good foundation for the team,” he added.

As far as Nasir is concerned Rulani said, “Nasir is a player who was already with us last year when we had a mid-season break and he went back home. In the process, we assisted him with an English tutor and pleasantly, upon his return, a lot of the communication he has had with his teammates and the rest of the team was in English and we are very happy because that also fastracks the integration and adaptation process.”
