WHY CHIEFS AND PIRATES WON’T BE ABLE TO CHALLENGE DOWNS – MUHSIN ERTUGRAL

Former Chiefs and Pirates coach Muhsin Ertugral says the Sowetan giants aren’t going to be able to overcome Downs’ dominance. Here’s why.

“One of the things we undermine in football is continuity. Mamelodi Sundowns have had continuity for five years now after winning the league in succession,” Ertugral told IOL.

“The teams that are following them (Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City and Roy AM) are buying eight, nine or 10 players, and even more.

“And it doesn’t work like that. It will never work. It is like fine-tuning an orchestra. Everyone can play unplugged. But you won’t listen to that. You’ll listen to an orchestra in fine-tuning. And this is years, and years, of being together.

“From the most successful teams in the world, you’ll see there’s only two or three transfers that are made and not more. And then, there’s longevity of continuity and processing of the squad. So, again, I don’t think that Sundowns will be challenged in this season.”

SUNDOWNS GOALKEEPER JOINS SUPERSPORT ON LOAN

SuperSport United this week confirmed the arrival of Ricardo Goss from Mamelodi Sundowns on a two-year-loan. Goss has reunited with Matsatsantsa head coach Gavin Hunt after spending two seasons together at Bidvest Wits before joining Sundowns.

SuperSport’s CEO Stan Matthews said about the new acquisition, “We are very happy to welcome Ricardo to the club for the next two seasons. Our Head Coach Gavin Hunt has worked with Ricardo extensively and rates him very highly. We look forward to him contributing to success on the field for us and for him to then be challenging for a place in Bafana Bafana again.”

New signing Ricardo Goss added, “I am very excited to join SuperSport United and I have been welcomed warmly by the boys. There are familiar faces in the camp, which made it easier for me to settle in the team. To the Matsatsantsa supporters, I am looking forward to interact with you and together we can try and win some silverware.”
