THE DUO’S FRIENDSHIP AND LIFE ON THE PITCH

The duo’s friendship comes a long way from when they were still playing together at SuperSport United. But Modiba joined Masandawana in 2020 from their cross-town rivals SuperSport United and has lifted two league titles. He has been doing well whenever given a chance despite not being a regular.

Lyle Lakay has been the main reason for Modiba not to play constantly as he used to at SuperSport. Lakay has been producing splendid performances since he was introduced into the left-back position by Pitso Mosimane and the team counts on him when it comes to taking free-kicks.

Meanwhile, Mokoena is still a newbie at the club as he only signed in January following a long and successful stay at Matsatsantsa who granted him blessings to chase greener pastures. In just less than six months since he put pen to paper at Masandawana, Mokoena has already lifted two cups in DStv Premiership and Nedbank Cup.

Both players have played for Bafana Bafana numerous times, however, have been out of favour under the leadership of Hugo Broos who hasn’t utilized them frequently.

Last week before he went on holiday, Mokoena was recognised by Free State Provincial Parliament for his contributions to football. The Chief Whip of the National Council of Provinces, Mr. Seiso Mohai, hosted an event where he handed over signed Teboho Mokoena memorabilia to the Free State Legislature.
