Orlando Pirates Keep Pressure on Betway Premiership Leaders as Stellenbosch Edge Golden Arrows in Seven-Goal Thriller

Orlando Pirates maintained their winning momentum in the Betway Premiership with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Polokwane City at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday night. The result marked their sixth consecutive league win and kept them firmly in contention for the title.

Tshepang Moremi’s early strike in the sixth minute proved decisive. The winger finished neatly after a quick attacking move, giving the Buccaneers the perfect start. Despite dominating possession, Pirates were unable to extend their lead but showed strong defensive discipline to protect their narrow advantage.

The victory keeps Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side in third place, only three points behind Mamelodi Sundowns, with two games in hand. The Soweto giants have now scored 11 goals and conceded only two during their six-match winning streak, underscoring their growing consistency.

For Polokwane City, the defeat was a setback in their push for a top-five finish. Rise and Shine remain locked on points with Durban City and AmaZulu after losing two of their last three games.

While Pirates celebrated in Soweto, Stellenbosch delivered one of the most entertaining matches of the season at Athlone Stadium. The Maroons ended a five-game winless run with a thrilling 4-3 triumph over Golden Arrows.

Langelihle Phili opened the scoring for Stellies in the 14th minute, but Luthando Ndlovu equalized for Arrows just before halftime. The second half exploded into life as Andre de Jong struck twice in quick succession in the 49th and 61st minutes. Each time, however, the visitors responded through Junior Dion in the 54th minute and Isaac Cisse in the 73rd.

The decisive moment came in the 76th minute when Muzomuhle Khanyi found the back of the net to seal the win for Steve Barker’s men. The result lifted Stellenbosch to 13th place, edging above Magesi on goal difference. Golden Arrows, meanwhile, stayed ninth, level on points with TS Galaxy and Marumo Gallants.

At FNB Stadium, Kaizer Chiefs’ frustrations continued as they were held to a goalless draw by Siwelele. The Glamour Boys extended their winless streak to four matches and slipped further behind the title challengers. The stalemate allowed Orlando Pirates to widen their gap over Chiefs, while Stellenbosch’s victory pushed Siwelele down to 15th in the standings.

Wednesday’s Betway Premiership Results:
Kaizer Chiefs 0-0 Siwelele
Orlando Pirates 1-0 Polokwane City
Stellenbosch 4-3 Golden Arrows

Orlando Pirates’ form and momentum make them a serious threat to the top two. With two games in hand and confidence growing, Ouaddou’s men remain well within striking distance of Mamelodi Sundowns. The race for the Betway Premiership title is tightening fast, and every point now carries extra weight.
